Patch An Ice Shelter

Ice shelters keep you warm when ice fishing and can be stowed away easily when not in use just like a tent.. If an ice shelter tears, the wind will continue to widen the tear until it becomes impossible to patch, so it is important to get patched as soon as possible. Patch kits come in various colors and sizes. An outdoor-supply center such as REI, Sportsman's Warehouse or other specialty store carry patch kits. If you cannot find a kit, you will still need a patch. Most of the other items you may need are typical ones found around your home.

Instructions

1. Pour the rubbing alcohol on your washcloth. Wash the area around the tear thoroughly with the alcohol by rubbing gently around the the tear. Wash both the outside and inside of the shelter around the tear.

2. Stretch the shelter carefully to line up the tear by laying the ice shelter over the side of the table. Clamp it to the table using a clothespin. Allow the alcohol to dry for about an hour. Rubbing alcohol evaporates quickly in a dryer climate but may take an hour in high humidity.

3. Place one patch on the inside of the tear. Line up the other patch to cover the outside of the tear and press the patches firmly together. After an hour your ice shelter will be ready for use again.
