Convert A Wav Ringtone On A Palm Treo

Customize your ringtones with WAV ringtone software.

If you have a track from a CD or music download that you'd like to use as the ringtone for your Palm Treo, make it a WAV ringtone with any of several Palm OS ringtone applications. You can extract clips from songs and assign them to various ringtone functions, such as ringtones for unknown callers, alarms, and text-message alerts. You also can assign a different WAV ringtone for every caller on your contact list, provided you have enough room on your memory card for a large volume of uncompressed WAV audio.

Instructions

LightWav Ringtone Manager

1. Download the demo version of LightWav to your PC or Mac (see Resources). Drag the installer package to your memory card, and insert the card in your Palm Treo.

2. Tap the installer package to install the program on your handheld device. Press the "Home" button on your Treo, and tap the LightWav icon to launch the program.

3. Tap "New" in the bottom-left corner of the software window. Locate the WAV audio on your SD memory card, and tap the file to load it in the editor. Use the touchscreen pointer to assign the ringtone to any of the options in LightWav, including "Known Caller Ringtone," "Unknown Caller Ringtone" and "Card Eject Ringtone," which saves a copy of the audio in internal memory.

4. Tap "Play" at the bottom of the screen to ensure that your ringtone settings are correct before closing the application.

mRing Ringtone Application

5. Download mRing, and drag the installer file to your memory card (see Resources). Insert the memory card in your Palm Treo, and press the "Home" button to see a list of your applications. Tap the mRing icon to launch the program.

6. Tap "Contacts" at the top of the screen to see a list of phone contacts on your Treo. Tap one of the contacts you want to edit to open a ringtone editor window. Tap the button displaying the name of the current ringtone to open a file manager, and choose a new ringtone.

7. Tap the WAV file you wish to assign as the ringtone for the name you've selected from your contact list. Tap "Play" to preview the ringtone and "Done" to return to the main window.

mp3Ringer WAV Ringtone Manager

8. Download the software to your computer, and drag the file to your SD memory card (see Resources). Insert the memory card in your Palm Treo, and tap "Home" to see the available applications. Tap "mp3Ringer" to run the program.

9. Tap the option you want to edit: for example, "Unknown Caller" or "Card Eject." Tap "Edit" at the bottom of the screen. Tap "Lookup" under "Ringer Display Name" to find the contact name for the option you've selected.

10. Tap "Play this ringtone" to select the WAV file to use as the ringtone for the contact. Tap "Lookup" under "Caller's phone number" to enter the number associated with the ringtone. Check the box next to "Enabled" if it has not been checked already. Tap "OK" to set the ringtone.
