Home Remedies For Ant Bites

There are many home remedies for ant bites that will help relieve pain and itching. When ants bite, they grasp the skin with their mandibles, then repeatedly inject poison into the site. Once you feel the first sting, move quickly away from the nest and remove the ants from your skin. To avoid infection, cleanse the area with alcohol and refrain from scratching once the blisters form.

Prevention/Solution

If you can, try to avoid active anthills. When you have to work near ant populations wear boots and keep your pants tucked into them.

Time Frame

Most home remedies work best when applied immediately after the bite. Carry the remedy in a spray bottle or container when you know you'll be around ants.

Instant Remedies

Rub tea tree oil, vinegar or a slice of onion on the area to relieve pain and itching.

Make-Ahead Remedies

Mix salt, baking soda, meat tenderizer or crushed aspirin with water to make a thick paste. Apply to ant bites.

Other Remedies

Ammonia applied to the area is also effective for ant bites, as is a solution of half bleach, half water.

Cooling Off

Apply ice in a washcloth for about 15 minutes to bring down swelling.

Warning

If you experience hives or severe swelling, severe chest pain, difficulty breathing, slurred speech, or dizziness and nausea after being bitten by ants, call 9-1-1 or go to the emergency room.
