Typically, there are no age limits regarding the participants, although minors will usually need permission from a guardian. Civil War reenactments act out famous scenes and battles from the Civil War. Participants dress in Civil War costumes, use Civil War era supplies and speak using the terms and speech accurate for the time period.
Instructions
1. Look up Civil War reenactments taking place close to your home by reviewing the events calendars on Civil War reenactment websites.
2. Attend a Civil War reenactment to observe how the reenactment operates and network with participants.
3. Decide if you wish to fight for the North or the South in a reenactment.
4. Choose the unit you wish to join. You can either research actual units you admire in the history of the Civil War and then seek out that unit in local reenactments or you can choose a unit from the contact list on Civil War reenactment websites.
5. Email or call the person in charge of the unit you wish to join to inquire about joining and receive the unit supply list. This list, formatted by the unit leader, will tell you what items to bring and what to wear. Some units are stricter than others and may require you to purchase uniforms of a particular fabric and thread count, for example.
6. Research the events of the Civil War, paying special attention to historical accounts of your particular unit. Educate yourself on the speech patterns, terms and slang relative to the era.
