Make A Fabric Mosquito

Make a fabric mosquito and glue it on a blank canvas.

If you are teaching your children about the dangers of mosquitos in other countries -- such as those in Africa, where mosquitos often transmit parasites that cause malaria -- then lead them in a simple art project in which they make their own fabric mosquito using a free template of a mosquito. They can decorate their mosquito individually and glue it to a canvas to create a unique piece of wall art.

Instructions

1. Print out a free template of a mosquito from a kid's craft site or a clip art site such as CKS Info or The Color. Print your mosquito on card stock. You may need to enlarge the mosquito at your local copy center in order to get the parts of the mosquito large enough to trace and cut out.

2. Cut out the template of the mosquito with scissors.

3. Place a cutting mat on your work surface. On top of the mat, place a piece of fabric with the design-side facing down on the cutting mat. Place the mosquito cutout on the fabric and trace around the mosquito with a fabric marker. Do this on several pieces of fabric of different colors and designs. You want to do this because you will cut out certain parts -- such as the wings -- in a different color of fabric.

4. Hot glue the mosquito body onto a blank, stretched, framed canvas that you can buy from your local craft store. Cut out the wings of the mosquito, the legs and the head from a separate fabric cutout and glue those pieces directly on top of the main mosquito body. Allow the glue to dry. Hang your fabric mosquito art on a wall.
