Electronic Mosquito Repellent

Mosquitoes are problem pests.


Electronic mosquito repellents are designed to effectively repel mosquitoes away from humans and their habitats. Smaller versions are worn directly on the body, while larger repellents are used outside. Research shows that electronic mosquito repellents aren't necessarily effective. Does this Spark an idea?


How It Works


Electronic mosquito repellents release a low-level frequency that is supposedly bothersome to mosquitoes. When the mosquitoes hear the sound, it forces the insects to move to a different area.


Expert Insight


An article in Science Daily consulted physician Bart Knols who runs the Malaria World website. According to Knols, electronic mosquito repellents are not effective against mosquitoes. Those who use the repellents in foreign countries do so because they hope to prevent malaria, but the products aren't effective against that either.


Considerations


According to Rutgers University, electronic mosquito repellents are not effective against male or female mosquitoes. Rutgers states, "the claims made by distributors border on fraud" due to how badly the devices actually work.
