Repair Holes In Window Screens

Patch holes in window screens to keep little animals where they belong.

A hole in a nylon or aluminum window screen is not only unsightly, it allows bugs and small critters to get through. If the hole is larger than 3 inches in diameter, the screen may need to be replaced, but smaller holes may be repaired very easily. With an inexpensive window screen repair kit (available at home improvement stores) you can repair a hole in your window screen in minutes. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Trim around the edge of the hole in the screen to remove raveled threads or wires. Utility scissors cut easily through nylon or aluminum screens.

2. Trim the nylon patch about 2 inches larger in diameter than the hole. Peel the backing off the self-adhesive patch. Orient the threads in the patch to align with those in the screen. Press the patch in place and smooth out any wrinkles. Per manufacturer's directions, hold the patch in place until the adhesive is fixed.

3. Select an aluminum screen patch that is about an inch larger than the diameter of the hole. Bend the wires that are on the edges of the patch 90 degrees, all in the same direction. Orient the wires in the patch to align with those in the screen. Carefully thread the edge wires through corresponding spaces between wires in the screen. Push the patch so it is flush with the screen. On the other side of the screen, bend the wires outward, so they lie flat on the screen.
