Bugs will invade garages seeking food and shelter.
If you own a garage, insects may be constantly trying to get in it. Summer heat can send insects inside searching for a water source, and colder winter months will drive them inside seeking warmth. No matter what time of year it is, you can get rid of these unwanted guests from your garage. Preventing the insects from getting in the garage in the first place is desirable, but you also need to kill the ones already taking up residence. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Place any food or pet food in airtight containers. Sweep or vacuum up any pet food that has fallen on the floor.
2. Check underneath any old cardboard boxes or clothing piles for roaches or other insects. Remove the boxes or clothing, especially if they are damp and possibly moldy.
3. Clean the corners along the walls, using the broom to remove spider webs.
4. Spray the inside and outside baseboards of your garage with an insecticide. Use the spray on any insects currently inside your garage. Sweep up the dead insects when you are finished.
5. Examine the walls or ceiling tiles in your garage for any plumbing leaks. Look closely at the plumbing if your hot water heater is in the garage. Water damage can open up cracks in walls and ceilings that will allow the insects to get inside. Repair any water damage you find.
6. Observe the inside and outside garage walls for cracks or holes. Load a caulking gun with silicone caulk. Fill any holes or cracks with caulking.
7. Fit the bottom edge of your garage door with a rubber seal or weatherstripping to prevent insects from squeezing in between the door and the garage floor. Purchase rubber seals at a home improvement center.
8. Place ant bait traps around the outside of the garage. Look for anthills and set several bait traps around them.
9. Remove any standing water in and around the garage to prevent mosquitoes from breeding and laying eggs in the area. Turn over any planters, garbage can lids or other containers with standing water.
