Clean Air Conditioner Coils

Your air conditioner's condenser and evaporator coils need to be kept clean for your air conditioner to run efficiently. As dirt and grime build up on the coils, their ability to absorb and radiate heat declines and the performance of the air conditioner suffers. Here are some steps on clean air conditioner coils. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Inside the House

1. Remove the front grille. Most grilles are made to clip on the air conditioner, but some types might require a screwdriver.

2. Remove the filter to expose the condenser coils.

3. Use a vacuum cleaner to suck up any dirt and dust on the coils.

4. Use a fin comb to straighten any bent coil fins. You can find fin combs at appliance parts outlet stores or from an air conditioning wholesaler.

5. Replace the filter and front grille.

Outside the House

6. Remove the back grille. You should be able to see the evaporator coils.

7. Use a vacuum cleaner to suck up any dirt and debris on the coils.

8. Use a fin comb to straighten any bent coil fins. You can find fin combs at appliance parts outlet stores or from an air conditioning wholesaler.

9. Replace the back grille.

10. Trim any foliage back by at least 2 feet to reduce the amount of dirt getting on evaporator coils.
