Make Your Own Allnatural Mosquito Insecticide

Soap disrupts an insect's cell membranes and it dies from dehydration.

Mosquitoes are more than pests, they're also a health hazard, which makes keeping them away from you and your family an important consideration. Even once you've removed standing water and breeding grounds from your yard, mosquitoes can continue to come from other areas. Having an effective insecticide and repellent is a must. Simple soaps (like castile soap) have been used to kill insects through dehydration for centuries, while ginger root and citronella essential oil have been used in many products to repel insects. Combining the two produces an all-natural insecticide and repellent that is safe for people and pets alike.

Instructions

1. Cut up two ginger roots and put them in the bottom of your large mason jar. Boil enough water to cover the roots and pour it into the jar over the roots.

2. Screw the top on tight and leave the mixture to sit overnight. This mixture will spoil, so if you don't use all of it in your spray, freeze the remainder for later use.

3. Strain out the ginger root and combine it with 1 quart of water and 2 Tbsp. of castile soap.

4. Mix in 10 to 15 drops of citronella essential oil. Start with 10 and see how strong the smell is. Some people don't like the smell, so if it's already strong, leave it at 10 drops.

5. Transfer your mixture into a spray bottle for easy application.
