Make Bug Juice For Kids

Bug juice is a popular childhood drink enjoyed by kids of all ages.

Bug juice is a super sweet drink made from bright fruits such as strawberries. It can be carbonated or made straight from the fruit juice. Bug juice got its name because in the past, red dyes No. 2 and 40 were used for flavoring the drink and after being recalled because health concerns, juice from the cochineal bug --- native from Mexico and South America --- began being used in place of the dyes. These bugs produce dark purple carminic acid, which is extracted and used to to color food products. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Place the defrosted strawberries and lemonade concentrate in a blender and mix until the ingredients are thick and smooth. If you do not have a blender, you can mash the strawberries with a fork in a large bowl until smooth, then add the lemonade concentrate and mix until combined.

2. Pour the ginger ale into the blender or bowl slowly, then mix again to ensure that the strawberries, lemonade concentrate and ginger ale are blended thoroughly.

3. Transfer the mixture into a large punch bowl, then add the remaining ginger ale.

4. Add raisins or blueberries to resemble bugs crawling around in the juice.
