1. Look for sales. Many pet stores run regular specials on aquariums, especially set-ups when they want to get rid of a certain item.
2. Browse pet stores. Even better than the sales, some stores will have large, odd-shaped or unused aquariums clogging up floor space or crammed in the back room. Ask the manager if there are any he wants to get off his hands for a reasonable price.
3. Check out moving sales. If people are moving a ton of stuff, especially in a hurry, they’ll be glad to let go of their aquariums.
4. Look in classifieds and online. Pet categories will often feature used aquariums that people want off their hands.
5. Talk to people. If you speak to enough people, you may find a few who have unused aquariums simply taking up space in their basement or garage they’d gladly give you a good deal on.
