If you own a swimming pool, at some point it will probably need to be drained. Pool owners may choose to drain their pool for a variety of reasons, such as contamination, general maintenance or repair, or just in preparation for winter. Unfortunately, draining the pool isn’t as simple as pulling a plug, but with the right equipment and some diligence, you can have an empty pool in no time. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Turn off the circuit breaker that supplies power to your pool's filtration system. Locate and turn off the automatic water fill valve. The location of this valve varies by pool, but you can probably find it near a spigot on the outside of the house.
2. Look for the cleanout port in order to gain access to the sanitary sewer line or septic tank. The cleanout port is typically located in the ground and has a square indentation for a wrench on the top.
3. Remove the cleanout port cover using the wrench and insert the drainage hose into the port. Connect the other end of the drainage hose to the submersible pump. Place the drainage pump into the pool’s deepest area. Once you turn on the pump and insert it into the pool, it will drain at approximately 12 gallons per minute.
