Diy House Fly Trap

Use a cut piece of fruit to bait your housefly trap.

Houseflies come into the house, attracted by the scent of food. They contaminate food, and they also lay their eggs in animal waste or in moist organic matter. There are many ways to kill houseflies, including swatters and electric zappers. You may also trap them and kill them or release them outdoors. Putting together a housefly trap is a straightforward process that uses materials found around the home. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Empty a 2-liter soda bottle and remove the screw top.

2. Cut the top away from the soda bottle with a sharp knife. Make the cut just 1 inch below the space where the soda bottle curves out to the main body of the bottle.

3. Fill the bottom 2 inches of the cut bottle with bait. Ripe fruit and pieces of lunch meat are all good choices for housefly bait.

4. Push the top of the bottle into the bottom part, the mouth of the bottle pointing down. This creates a funnel that the flies can get into but from which they cannot escape.

5. Punch two holes opposite to one another in the top inch of the bottle.

6. Thread a 1-foot length of string through both the holes and tie it into a loop.

7. Use the loop to hang the trap up where there are many houseflies. When the trap is full of houseflies, block the entrance with a wet cotton ball and throw it away.
