Clean A Ram Air Duct

A computer is a magnet for dust. When a computer is turned on and off, the electronics attract dust. In addition, the various fans on the computer draw dust in from outside the computer. At the same time, dust is an enemy of computers. When dust collects on the electronic equipment and parts of the computer, the dust creates a blanket that can both stop the airflow and effectively insulate the equipment, making the electronic parts warm. As computer parts get warmer, they tend to break.

Instructions

1. Open the computer case. This can be completed with the screws, thumbscrews or snaps that hold the computer case together.

2. Locate and remove the large air duct. This is usually made of black plastic and will be found just above the processor or the main memory chips (RAM). It is normally attached to the case or motherboard with large plastic thumbscrews.

3. Use your small vacuum or can of compressed air to remove the dust from the duct. Be sure to do this away from the computer so you do not blow dust back into the computer case.

4. Use the alcohol wipes to clean the remaining dust off the RAM air duct.

5. Reinstall the air duct in the computer case and reclose the case.
