Spray Deet On Your Clothes To Prevent Ticks

Protecting yourself from ticks can be accomplished using DEET.

If you enjoy hiking in the woods or hunting, you're at risk for tick bites. Although this may seem like just an inconvenience, ticks can carry very dangerous diseases, including Lyme disease. Get bitten by a tick and your life could change forever. One method to protect yourself from tick bites is to apply DEET to your clothes. DEET is an insect repellent proven to stop ticks from biting the body, keeping you safe from harm.

Instructions

1. Stand in an open area. Make sure you're not wearing any clothing with spandex, acetate, rayon or another type of synthetic fabric, as well as leathers as you risk damaging or staining them.

2. Hold the bottle of insect repellent approximately 6 to 8 inches away from your clothing and skin. Spray the insect repellent on your clothing and body, making sure not to saturate the clothing but just enough to mist on top of the body and clothing.

3. Spread the insect repellent over the skin with your hands. Spray the insect repellent on all clothing surfaces, particularly your shoes, socks and cuffs, to ensure the ticks don't have a path up your body to your skin.

4. Spray the insect repellent into your hands and rub onto your face, using just a small amount and keeping it away from your eyes.
