Operate A Mosquito Magnet

The mosquito magnet disrupts the reproductive cycles of mosquitoes.

Picnics or barbecues in the summertime are often interrupted by pesky mosquitoes. Constantly using insect repellents can be a nuisance and may not always prove to be effective. A device such as a mosquito magnet keeps mosquitoes at bay for a long time. A mosquito magnet trap is a long-term solution which controls mosquitoes safely and effectively. It disrupts the mosquito population so that the eggs are gone and no insects are bred. There are a few different mosquito magnets available, all of which follow similar directions and are operated using propane gas. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Assemble your mosquito-magnet trap. Setup instructions may vary depending on your mosquito-magnet model. Generally, turn the base -- the part with the wheels on it -- upside down and unfold the U-shaped support leg until it locks in place. Turn the base right-side up and attach the support pole into the hole or cavity in the base. Place the power head of the mosquito magnet, which is the main part of the trap containing the gas, onto the pole. Press down firmly to secure it. The front of the power head should be facing the same direction as the U-shaped legs of the base. Insert the plume tube into the horn of the power head and turn it until it locks in place. The plume tube is a small tube, which connects to the horn on the underside of the power head.

2. Charge the mosquito magnet for at least 24 hours before using it for the first time.

3. Figure out the direction of the prevailing wind to determine where to place the trap. Stand in the center of the area where you want to place the trap and look toward the prevailing wind. Place the mosquito magnet 30 to 40 feet in front of where you are standing and within about 5 to 6 feet of ground cover, such as bushes, flowerbeds or tree line. The device must be on level ground to avoid tipping or uneven gas distribution.

4. Make sure that the place you chose for the mosquito magnet is in the shade, and that it is not directly above a water source, such as sprinklers. Move the mosquito magnet away from a building or fence so that it's not directly up against it.

5. Install the net inside the mosquito magnet until you hear a snap. Close and turn the latch on the net door so that it's closed securely.

6. Install the propane tank onto the cradle of the mosquito magnet base only after the ideal location is chosen. Check to ensure that the propane tank is fully closed, and attach the propane regulator to the tank. Turn on the propane tank by slowly turning the valve knob counterclockwise.

7. Plug the power connector into the trap. Plug the AC adapter into an electrical outlet. Connect it only to a properly grounded outlet to avoid the risk of electrical shock. Press the "On/Reset" button. You will hear the fans start, and a yellow light will blink for a few minutes indicating the warm-up stage. The yellow light will stay steady for about three minutes, indicating that the trap has reached its proper temperature. It will then turn off and a green light will turn on. The trap is now fully operational.

8. Use the mosquito magnet 24 hours a day for about four to six weeks to reduce the mosquito population and to interrupt breeding cycles. The trap starts capturing immediately. It can be left on during the rain.

9. Turn off the mosquito magnet by pressing the "Off" button and closing the valve on the propane tank. Do not unplug it for at least five minutes after turning it off to avoid heat damage.
