Do It Yourself Drain Cleaning Machines

Bathtub drain

Drain cleaning can be a messy job. However, there are a few special tools you can use to clean your drain and not make a big mess. All these tools can be found at a hardware store, and with a little addition or modification, you can have an excellent drain cleaner that will unclog any drain without using chemicals or having to rent a machine. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Change into your old work clothes and have your gloves ready for use. This will keep you from getting your good clothes dirty.

2. Attach four zip ties to the end of the snake or auger. This will allow increased cleaning but will not cause damage to the pipes. Make sure to use the smallest zip ties possible and pull them as tight as you can.

3. Attach the drill to the back of the snake or auger to supply the power needed to run the auger. The faster the drill speed, the quicker the auger will clean out the drain.

4. Feed the snake or auger into the drain and start running the drill at a slow speed to get the feel of how the auger will go through the pipe. When comfortable, increase the drill speed. The auger will pull its way through the pipe and you will have to supply only a little pressure.

5. Remove the snake from the drain when you reach its end. You will want to grab your gloves and an old rag to wipe off the snake as you pull it out. This will keep the auger clean and working for a long time.

6. Pour hot water down the drain to clean out anything that was left.
