Keep Squirrels Away With High Frequency Sounds That Only Animals Can Hear

High-frequency sound waves frighten rodents and other small animals, forcing them to flee.

High-frequency pest repellents are a safe, humane way to keep squirrels and other rodents away from your garden or home. These devices emit high-frequency sounds that cannot be heard by humans. These sounds can, however, be heard by rodents; they disrupt their "critical hearing frequencies" and force the rodents to seek refuge elsewhere. These devices are simple to use and require almost no maintenance whatsoever, making them the perfect tool to use in your fight against pests. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Purchase an ultrasonic rodent repeller. Dazer, Victor and Improvements are a few of the companies that manufacture these devices. Most ultrasonic rodent repellers are designed for use with mice, rats, squirrels and other small animals. These types of pest repellers are safe to use with dogs and cats, as they cannot hear the ultrasonic sound. They should not be used in areas where guinea pigs, chinchillas, tarantulas or other small pets are present. When purchasing the device, consider where it is going to be used. If you have an indoor squirrel problem, purchase a unit designed for indoor use. If the problem is outdoors (most likely) purchase a unit that is designed for outdoor use and one that has an appropriately long extension cord.

2. Connect the power cord to the unit (if necessary) and plug the unit into a power outlet. If the only power outlets are inside and the pest problem is outside, plug the unit into an indoor power outlet and route the cord outside. Otherwise, use an outdoor outlet for outside areas and an indoor outlet for indoor areas.

3. Slide the unit's power switch to the "On" position, if necessary. Some units require that you turn them on, while others are constantly activated while they are connected to a power source. Set the sound settings to the appropriate settings to repel squirrels and other rodents if the device has a settings switch. Some devices have multiple settings for multiple types of pests (for example, one setting may read "squirrels and large rodents," one may read "spiders and insects," and yet another may read "mice and bats") while others only have one setting for all types of pests.

4. Place the unit on a flat surface with the speaker facing away from any obstructions. If placed indoors, place the unit in the room with the pest problem. Ultrasonic sound waves cannot pass through walls, so you must place the unit as close to your problem area as possible when using the device indoors. If needed outdoors, place the unit on a flat, dry surface close to the problem area. For example, if you are trying to protect a garden, place the device near the garden; if you are protecting the front of the house, place it in front of the house). When used outdoors ultrasonic repellers can cover a large area, but it is always helpful to place the device near the problem area if possible.

5. Operate the unit day and night until the pest problem is resolved. Most high-frequency pest repellers recommend waiting at least two weeks to see results.
