Mosquito larvae grow into aggravating pests.
Mosquito larvae need water to survive. Mosquitoes will lay their eggs in standing water, so cutting down on the amount of standing water on the property will aid in mosquito larvae control. Adding cinnamon oil to your efforts is a natural, pesticide-free way to kill the larvae and further decrease the amount of mosquitoes in the area. The frequency with which you need to kill the larvae depends on the amount of rainfall and standing water in your area. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Dump out any container you can that holds standing water. This includes barrels, rain gauges and unused birdbaths. Remove the water from the containers immediately after rainfall. Turn the item upside down, or dry it with a towel.
2. Pour in two or three drops of cinnamon oil for every gallon of water in a container, such as a birdbath or kiddie pool (only if the water does not contain added chemicals). The cinnamon oil won't harm the animals or children.
3. Wipe the crevices of any item that collects water with cinnamon oil. For example, pockets on a garden statue may collect a small amount of rainwater from which larvae can emerge.
