When you are trying to enjoy a picnic or a day at the beach, the last thing you want to deal with is mosquitoes and other unwanted critters. An itchy bite is annoying enough. In addition, we must worry about diseases such as West Nile Virus. The chemicals in manufactured bug sprays can worry you as well. Make your own spray that is natural and this will save you money and worry. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove any stems from the catnip. Rinse the catnip and crush it gently by placing it inside of a dish towel or cheesecloth and go over it with a rolling pin.

2. Place the crushed catnip inside the quart size jar. Measure the rice vinegar and put it into the jar over the catnip. Place the lid on the jar and seal tightly.

3. Store the jar in a cool, dry, dark place. Leave it for two weeks, shaking the jar once every day.

4. Separate the liquid from the catnip by straining it through the strainer, colander or cheesecloth into a bowl or jar. Add the essential oils and mix well.

5. Pour the desired amount of liquid into a spray bottle using a funnel. Spritz it onto your skin or in the air. Keep the remaining liquid in a lidded jar in the refrigerator for up to six months.
