Heavy Duty Feline Flea Treatment

Flea treatment is a must for all cats. But the number of different brands on the market can be confusing. Adding to that confusion is the fact that not all flea treatments are the same. While all address fleas, many control other parasites as well. Additionally, some work faster than others. Then there's the issue of dosing: you can use topical treatments on cats that can't be tricked into consuming pills.

Revolution

Feline Revolution is a topical treatment, meaning that it comes in a tube and is applied to your cat's skin. It kills not only fleas but also heartworms, ear mites, hookworms and roundworms. It does not, however, control feline ticks.

Advantage

Feline Advantage is also a topical product. It kills fleas and feline lice, but not ticks.

Advantage Multi

Advantage Multi is a separate product from Advantage. It is also topical. Like Revolution, it kills fleas, heartworms, roundworms, hookworms and ear mites.

Capstar

Capstar is a flea treatment in pill form. It starts working within 30 minutes and is advertised as able to kill more than 90 percent of adult fleas on cats within six hours of dosage.

Frontline

Frontline for cats is a topical product. It is advertised as killing 100 percent of adult fleas within 18 hours of application and 100 percent of all ticks present within 48 hours. It also kills flea eggs and larvae. Additionally, it is effective against all stages of the life cycles of the deer tick, which is the major carrier of Lyme disease, and the lone star tick.

Bio Spot

Bio Spot is a topical solution also. It kills and repels fleas, ticks and even mosquitoes. According to 1-800 Pet Meds, it also contains "an insect growth regulator that eliminates flea eggs for up to one month and prevents re-infestation."

Promeris

Promeris is also a topical product. It kills fleas but no other parasites.
