Since traditional centerpieces are composed of cut flowers arranged in a vase, opt for a more sustainable floral centerpiece by using potted flowering plants. Choose a small potted plant for each table, such as hydrangea, spray roses or peonies. You could also opt to choose flowers based on a color scheme, such as blue hydrangea for a boy baby shower or pink spray roses for a girl baby shower. Edible Centerpieces
Play upon the idea of a colorful floral centerpiece by using a different filler than flowers for an eye catching and natural look. Fill a clear glass vase or bowl with an assortment of vibrantly colored fruits and vegetables, such as apples, grapes, cucumbers, yellow bell peppers or cherries. You could also have a theme for each table. Many baby and pregnancy websites offer various fruits and vegetables as examples of the size the baby is throughout the pregnancy. Assign each table a certain week during the pregnancy, such as 12 weeks, 23 weeks or 33 weeks. Use the suggested fruit as the centerpiece for that table. For example, fill a vase with limes for the 12 week table, arrange mangoes in a bowl for the 23 week table and place a pineapple in the center of the table for 33 weeks.
Nest
Nest imagery is often referred to during a pregnancy, such as the "nesting period" in which pregnant women notoriously embark on home design and repair projects. A nest also invokes feelings of family and young to care for. Create handmade nests using pieces of straw and twigs as centerpieces for each table. Fill the nests with silk flowers or candy-filled eggs as favors.
Rocks and Shells
Tranquility and serenity are important goals for a healthy, happy pregnancy. Create peaceful centerpieces using natural substances such as rocks, stones and seashells. Arrange the rocks or shells artfully in a bowl or vase. You could also fill a bowl with sand and arrange the shells or stones in the sand.
